From Jakarta to Bali, my go-to is a quick flight to Denpasar. It’s about 1.5 hours in the air, and you land ready to chase sunsets. Airlines run all day, and you can snag deals if you book early. I did this last trip and winged it with a scooter rental in Seminyak.
If you’re chasing adventure and saving pennies, you can go overland: train from Jakarta to Surabaya or Banyuwangi, hop a Ketapang ferry to Gilimanuk, then a 3, 4 hour drive to Denpasar. It eats a full day but the coast and ferry crossing are pretty memorable.
There’s also the split-option of Lombok to Bali, fly Jakarta to Lombok and take a fast boat to Padangbai or Serangan. Not as fast, but worth it if you’re island-hopping.

Flight is the easiest: Jakarta to Denpasar (DPS) in about 1.25, 1.5 hours on Garuda, Lion Air, or BatikAir. Overland option adds a road trip: Jakarta to Banyuwangi, then Ketapang, Gilimanuk ferry (~1h), Bali drive to Denpasar (~3, 4h), total 15, 20h. I did this once for the scenery; plan an overnight stop.

Fly CGK, DPS (~1.5h), fastest; I did a red-eye to hit Seminyak next morning. Other options: Jakarta, Surabaya train, then DPS flight; Banyuwangi train then Gilimanuk ferry.
