Three days is my sweet spot to soak in both cities. I spent a long weekend hopping off the metro into Valparaíso's labyrinth of hills: Cerro Alegre and Concepción with colorful façades, riding the old funiculars, and sipping coffee while watching the cables bob over the harbor. A half-day at La Sebastiana, Neruda's house, and a sunset bar crawl along Paseo Atkinson felt magical. Then I spent a full day in Viña del Mar: a stroll through the classical gardens, the Prado waterfront, and the breezy Castillo Wulff; the beach at Reñaca is a nice bonus if it's warm. If you have 4 days, add a half-day wine tour in Casablanca valley and a morning in Valpo's mural alleys. Practical tip: stay in Cerro Alegre for the vibe, and use buses or ride shares for easy hops between towns.

Three days works best for me, two in Valparaíso for hills and murals, one in Viña del Mar for beaches.

Plan three days: Day 1 Valparaíso for hills, murals, and funiculars; Day 2 Viña del Mar for gardens, the coast, and Castillo Wulff; Day 3 either more Valpo highlights or a quick Casablanca wine tour.
