Plan around these: Sinulog (Cebu) and Dinagyang/Ati-Atihan all in January, with huge street parades. Panagbenga (Baguio) in February. Kadayawan (Davao) in August. MassKara (Bacolod) and Pahiyas (Lucban) in October. Aliwan Fiesta in Manila around May. I chased Sinulog last year and got soaked dancing in the rain, worth it for the energy.

Chasing the Philippines’ biggest fiestas, I once timed a trip to catch three January classics, Sinulog in Cebu, Ati-Atihan in Kalibo, and Dinagyang in Iloilo. The drumline shake, the costumes glitter in the sun, and the street food cures the heat. My advice: book flights and stays months ahead, pick a hotel near the parade routes, and arrive early to snag a good spot. Bring sunscreen, a hat, cash for hawkers, and a collapsible poncho just in case the tropical showers swing by. Then plan a slower break in February for Panagbenga in Baguio, and sprinkle in late-year gems like MassKara in Bacolod or Kadayawan in Davao if you can swing it. One big festival + a couple days of rest is perfect.

Big ones to mark on your calendar: Panagbenga in Baguio (Feb), Sinulog in Cebu (3rd Sunday Jan), Dinagyang in Iloilo (4th Sunday Jan), Ati-Atihan in Kalibo (Jan), Pahiyas in Lucban (May), MassKara in Bacolod (Oct), Kadayawan in Davao (Aug). I chased Sinulog last year, danced in the street in confetti, unforgettable energy.
