Layer smart: base, fleece, windproof shell; sturdy boots, quick-dry pants, warm hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen.

On my Atlas Mountains trek, I swore by layering. Base: breathable merino or synthetic top; Mid: lightweight fleece; Outer: waterproof, breathable shell. Add a warm insulated layer for high winds at the summit. Choose quick-dry trekking pants (or lined leggings) plus a windproof softshell. Boots with ankle support and thick wool socks. Accessories: sun hat, sunglasses, gloves, windproof beanie, and sunscreen. Pack a lightweight rain layer just in case.
